Deer stuck on the ice gets a slide to shore

Every time the deer tries to stand up on the frozen lake, it slips all over the place. more

Gil Lancour sees the white-tailed deer struggling and heads out to help. He steps carefully across the frozen surface, with no way of knowing how thin the ice might be.

"You're fine," a voice says. Gil bends over the deer and rests a hand on its head to calm it down.

The deer doesn't fight him. It stays down on the ice and lets a stranger lean right over it. If anything, it looks relaxed.

Then Gil starts sliding the deer across the ice toward shore. Several viewers saw a curling match in it, minus the brooms.

There's a ridge in the ice to deal with along the way. "You're gonna have to get over that ridge," someone says, "unless you go to the side."

Soon the shore is close, with dry grass and snow right at the edge of the ice. The deer lets Gil do all the work.

Once they reach land, the deer gets to its feet and runs off into the woods. Not long ago it couldn't even stand.
