They cling to her there, two small bears holding on to one very big one. One of them seems to think walking is something other bears do. Riding is much better.

Mother bears are famous for guarding their young, and nobody with any sense gets between a bear and her cubs. Out here, though, there is nothing to guard against. Her only job is watching, and she does it closely as the cubs leave her back and run off on their own.

They play with each other in the snow, and that gives her a small window. She seems to try for a nap. She has plenty of patience for her cubs, maybe not quite as much energy, and the short rest looks well earned.

The mother has fans of her own. A lot of people say she is every bit as cute as the cubs. One grandmother wrote that she wished she had looked that relaxed as a new mom, and that her grandchildren giggled and asked to see it again.
