A tiny camping tent for two pet otters

On day 555 with two pet otters, their human comes home with an armful of packages. He is planning a camping trip, and Captain Aty and Ui get the first look at the gear. more

The first package is wrapped so heavily that it takes a while to get into. Inside is a square of fake grass, one meter on each side. Captain Aty is curious about it right away. Ui is more careful and comes toward the green square slowly.

Next comes the tent, a tiny one, set up beside the unrolled turf. It's cheap but well made. Aty doesn't like soft cushions, so his human cuts a piece of turf to line the floor while Ui watches quietly from a few feet away. The second piece he cuts fits perfectly.

The old tent explains the upgrade. They used it outside, it got caked in mud in the rain, and now it only gets used indoors. The new one is waterproof, and the turf washes easily and dries fast.

He sweeps up the loose bits of grass first. Then the otters move in. They tumble and wrestle across the little green floor, then settle down to rest.

Aty, though, keeps flipping the turf over and crawling under it, the way he does with everything. He's the Captain, after all, and a captain inspects. Wild otters turn over rocks to find food, so the habit runs deep.

The camping trip is still to come. The tent, at least, has already been checked from underneath.
