Cockatoo will only take his harness from Mom
Eric The Legend, a cockatoo, likes his walks. He doesn't care for the harness he has to wear on them, at least not when Lester is the one holding it. more
Cockatoos are parrots, and like other parrots they are clever and very vocal, with a gift for copying human speech. Eric has a mouth on him. When something annoys him, he screeches at the top of his lungs, and if nobody gets the message, he swears without a bit of shame.
Outside, he gets to pick the local flowers and try seeds and nuts. For his own safety, though, he has to wear a harness and leash.
So Lester, his dad, comes over with the harness, coaxing, “Come on, mate.” Eric wants no part of it. He stomps back and forth, squawks and throws his wings out wide.
SaveLester sets the harness down on the chair beside him. Eric knocks it straight onto the floor. On the second try, Lester gets a little nip on the hand for his trouble.
And then there's what Eric says. What he calls Lester can't be printed here, but he seems to know exactly when each word will land. “What did he call you?” someone asks.
SaveLester keeps at it anyway. “Put this over your head,” he tries, and then, “Oh, come on.”
Eric does like the harness, as it happens. He just likes it from Mom.
