Five cowgirls line dancing to "Chattahoochee"

Down by a pond in the country, five young cowgirls in pink tank tops and cowboy hats gather for Alan Jackson's "Chattahoochee." more

They start around a tree with the water behind them, dressed to match in blue jeans, boots and belt buckles you could spot from across the pond. The routine is their own. They made it up together.

The five of them dance together on the grass. It's a proper country line dance, the kind plenty of fans have done to this song once or twice.

Every so often they break off, and one cowgirl at a time dances alone to show off her own moves. Each gets a turn, and each does it her own way.

Partway through, the cowgirls take turns dancing on their own.

Fans have their favorites. Some point to the one in the middle, some to the one out front, and a couple of Portuguese speakers keep praising the blonde. One said they did not stop smiling the entire time.

Another of the five takes her turn in a pink top and boots.

It sends plenty of people back in time. A commenter remembered riding horses under the trees with girlfriends, singing "Satin Sheets" and "D-I-V-O-R-C-E," with no phone around to keep the memory. Others want in. One plans to dance this at a June festival, and another is already learning the steps.

The song suits them. Alan Jackson, who's from Georgia, has said it is a simple one about coming of age in a small town, and the Chattahoochee is a real river some 430 miles long. Their pond is a good deal smaller, and nobody down by the water seems to mind.
