Fredo the husky turns bath time into an opera
Fredo is a young husky booked for his first appointment with a new groomer. She expects drama, and Fredo doesn't disappoint. more
It doesn't take him long to try climbing out of the tub, or to start screaming. He hugs the corner and keeps turning her water off. “Sometimes I wonder if my neighbors think I torture dogs for a living,” she says.
SaveHe carries on as if the bath were acid, and she almost wants to give him an Oscar. She tries reasoning with him, but Fredo “is more about that rebel life.” He stands up on the ledge of the tub, since the floor is clearly a better place for water. By now she knows every husky lyric by heart, and the floor has become her own personal skating rink.
She assumes the screaming will end with the bath. It does not. Fredo seems sure the towel is there to smother him, and she decides she has finally met someone who talks more than she does. Then out comes the quick-drying spray.
SaveFredo has saved his best for last. His voice climbs so high that it's like he's trying out for “American Idol.” He could be the most dramatic husky she has ever worked on, and if you listen closely, he almost seems to be screaming “Oh, why.”
SaveHe also wants to show her what a good swimmer he is, and the real talent, she notes, is that he can scream and swim at the same time. Then, since she's now “hearing impaired,” his owners have asked her to brush his teeth. He must like the toothpaste, because for this part he is quite a good boy.
SaveShe doesn't even try to wash his face in the tub, so a wipe does that job. “Apparently a wire brush is far less scary than a soft towel,” she says. He's still young and not really shedding, so not much hair comes out. Shaving his paw pads is hard because he's so squirmy, and a tasty treat keeps him busy while she finishes.
His nails are too short to clip, so the last step is a spray of mango tango cologne, “and to Fredo's surprise, he did not die.” He is all finished, looking and feeling very handsome. She goes off to check on the hearing aids she ordered.
