The French bulldog who raced the greyhounds
This dog track is full of greyhounds, lean and ready to race. Then someone brings in a French bulldog named Mr. Quiggly, and he's wearing sneakers. more
He's the star of a Super Bowl ad for Skechers, and the shoes on his feet are the brand's newest running sneakers. He even has a red jersey with the number 3 on it, like any other racer.
The joke is the matchup. Greyhounds are the dogs people picture when they think of speed, and the favorite here is one called Silver Prince. Mr. Quiggly is short and solid, a late entry with nothing on his side but a good pair of shoes.
Even the announcer has to ask whether he is wearing running shoes. "It is legal, I believe," comes the ruling, and they're off. Queen Hurricane jumps out front with Silver Prince right behind.
Then Mr. Quiggly comes around the outside. "Look at that little guy go," the announcer calls. It's going to be Quiggly, and then comes a startled "What?" He's walking across the finish line.
SaveThe last line belongs to someone who has just heard his demands: "What do you mean you want a new contract?" One race, and he's already a star. A few fans just type his name, Mr. Quiggly, with a row of exclamation marks after it, like a crowd cheering from the stands.
