A husky pup licks Harrison Ford's face
"Bring on the puppies," says Harrison Ford, and the first one brought out is a husky. He settles in beside Ford on a white couch as if the two have known each other for years. more
Ford is there to talk about "Call of the Wild." He read the book in high school and found it powerful, and he strokes the pup while he talks. He has always had dogs, he says. There are three at home right now.
SaveBefore long he asks, a bit hopefully, whether this dog is up for adoption. The husky couldn't look more at ease, apart from one playful growl and a nibble. "I am getting chewed," Ford reports.
Then comes a question about whether he would ever steal props. Ford looks taken aback. "Steal props?" he repeats, almost in a whisper. "No, I wouldn't do that. I took away memories."
As he answers the next question, the husky looks up at him and licks his face. It's the most direct review he gets all day.
SaveFord once bought a house he wanted to fix up, spent his money on tools and had none left for materials. So he took a job as a carpenter and learned the trade from library books. He never gave up on acting. Carpentry was just another way to put food on the table.
SaveNext, he is handed two chihuahuas. He pets them as calmly as he did the husky, while they keep up a steady stream of sweet little puppy noises.
Later he is asked what he would be if he weren't an actor. "Car thief," he answers, as dry as can be. For a man who won't take a prop, it's quite a backup plan.
The puppies all come from Pacific Pups Rescue, which works to find them good homes with loving families. "Give these guys a home," Ford says. "You'll be happy you did." If the husky ever needs a reference, he knows who to ask.
