Chris Evans calls every puppy Buster
Chris Evans takes his seat for a puppy interview and braces himself. "I'm expecting like a waterfall of puppies," he says. more
He's not far off. The puppies come in, and he greets every one of them in a soft, silly voice. "Oh my god, you guys are so sweet." When the first question comes, his answer is "Who cares."
Most of them get the same name. "Hi, Buster," he says, again and again, with a Buster Brown, a Bubby and a Belle mixed in. The cute is too much, and he says so. "This is a problem." Then, "This is impossible." With two pups licking his face, he settles on "Oh man, this is terrible."
SaveIn between, he does answer a few things, in pieces. He thinks Loki "seems to have the most fun." He loved Toy Story as a kid, and he once wanted to be an animator. Asked to spend 48 hours as another Avenger, he calls it a tough call. "Scarlett's my girl," he says. Renner "would be trouble," and "Hemsworth would make me feel bad about myself."
Then it's back to the dogs. "You guys are so tough," he tells them. "You're all flexing, you're showing off." One pup gets "Look at that mug. You look a little nervous, huh?" He puts a hand to his chest. "It's okay, pal." Seconds later someone is "you little troublemaker."
SaveNext come the older dogs, and he tells the story of his own. He rescued Dodger as a full-grown dog, about two years old, when he had always pictured a little puppy. "It wasn't the story I had in my mind," he says, "but it ended up being the best decision of my life."
Adult dogs get overlooked, he says, and that's a shame. So his voice drops and his hands slow down. "It's okay. Come on, let's build some trust." An older dog's love is special because "you got to earn it." These dogs "have probably seen some things," he says, so they're a little wary, and he respects that.
SaveHe earns it. "Thanks for trusting me," he tells one dog, and later another. The dogs came from Pacific Pups Rescue, and he makes a point of saying they all need homes. Go to a shelter, he says. There are "a lot of loving friends waiting for you."
SaveNear the end, one dog earns an "Excuse you." He is forgiven in the same breath. "What a good man. Good job, Bubba."
