The puppy who wouldn't leave his mom by the road
A young puppy had lost his mother beside a busy road and a train track. He stayed close to her and wouldn't let anyone near. more
The Paw Squadron rescue team got the emergency call and went out to help. No one knew why his mom had died. The pup guarded her, scared and sad, and when the rescuers tried again to come close, he was still too shaken.
Treats came first, then food, and at last he ate and drank. The rescuers figured he must have been starving.
SaveIt took a long time, but they got him into a crate. They didn't leave his mother behind, either. They placed her in a box and took her with them.
The vet came next, as fast as they could get there. The puppy wouldn't come out of his crate and was still very shaken, but the checkup found him healthy overall. The vet sent them home with medicine for him.
They tried a park after that, hoping some open space would loosen him up. It did not. He was still scared and would not touch his food.
At home, the team kept a safe distance and let him settle. He went to his box and stayed in the corner, and for a while it looked like nothing would change.
Then he came out. He started to explore the house, and he even let them pet him. That night he slept a little easier.
Over the next weeks the change kept coming, until one day they were able to cuddle. The puppy who had kept everyone away from his mother now let them hold him close.
SaveHe has a home to go to as well, with a large yard and two other dogs, where he'll be cared for and taught to get along. The one thing he still needs is a name.
