The stray mom who followed her pups to safety
The call to Hope For Paws was short on details. A stray dog had probably just given birth, and nobody knew how many puppies were with her. more
The rescuers get there fast and find her lying on the grass under the bushes with her litter. She's a shaggy dog with matted fur, and she has already done the hard part. The puppies are born, and she's resting with them.
A hand reaches in and strokes her, and she lets it happen. That matters, because the next part is delicate. One by one the rescuers lift out the puppies, count them, and look each one over to make sure all is well.
SaveThe puppies are tiny and dark, with the kind of faces that have viewers guessing husky. Nobody knows how many there are until the last one is out, so the rescuers keep counting until the bushes are empty.
When the last puppy is lifted out, mom comes out too. Every one of her babies is in someone else's arms now, and she's not staying behind. The rescuers never meant to split them up. She goes with them, and the whole family leaves together.
Indoors, the puppies get cleaned up and settled into a red tub, a small heap of dark fur. Their mother gets looked after too.
