A hen pecks out "America the Beautiful"
A key lights up, and Jokgu pecks it. Then the next one glows, and slowly a song takes shape. It is "America the Beautiful." more
Jokgu is a barnyard hen with yellow feathers and black markings around her neck, and she has a keyboard of her own at home. She leans right over it, her head down near the black and white keys, and gets to work.
SaveThe secret is in the lights. Each key glows when it's time to play it, and Jokgu pecks the one that is lit.
Note after note, she stays bent over the keys. "This chicken can play better than me," one fan admits, and a teacher jokes that some students have spent two years trying to reach her level.
SaveJokgu belongs to Shannon Myers and Sei-Hee Arii, and her gift isn't as odd as it looks. Backyard Poultry says chickens are smart and easy to train, hens most of all, because they're such curious birds.
When the music stops, the praise comes fast. "Good girl, good girl, Jokgu," a voice says, and then, "Here you go," the best words a working hen can hear.
SaveShe's not the only player in the family. Her sister Aichan joined her for a second act on America's Got Talent, a duet of "Born to Be Wild," but the two got stage fright and chickened out.
