Best man, age 11, tells on his uncle Bill
The first speech at Bill and Mary's wedding goes to the best man, and the best man is 11. more
His name is R.J., and he's Bill's nephew. Standing in front of the seated guests with a microphone in hand, he does everything a best man should. He thanks the guests for coming, thanks Bill and Mary for hosting, and thanks Bill for asking him to be his best man.
SaveNext comes the history. He and Bill go back a long time, he tells the room. Eleven years, to be exact, which is his whole life.
R.J.'s family used to live in Iowa, and every year Bill would come to visit with a new girlfriend. Bill would ask his nephew for advice, and the usual answer was to kick them to the curb. R.J. delivers all of this in a bow tie with a flower pinned to his jacket, calm as can be.
SaveThen Mary came along, and she was different. She seemed normal. So R.J. told his uncle to go for it. "I'm happy you listened to my advice," he says.
SaveHe saves his best line for last. He leaves the groom with "this one final thought," which is to stop asking him for advice. He's only 11.
SaveThe whole speech takes about two minutes. Whoever has to speak after him has a hard act to follow.
