On a cliff, Mr. Peanut lets go
Mr. Peanut and two men are hanging over the edge of a cliff, and somebody has to be brave. The two men would really prefer it was somebody else. more
This is a Planters Super Bowl ad, so one of them is wearing a top hat. Mr. Peanut has been the face of the brand for more than a hundred years, mostly selling nuts. Out here in dry, rocky country under a clear sky, the job is a lot harder.
The men are no help. "Oh, Matt, let go," one of them yells. "No, you let go," comes the answer. It's less a rescue than an argument, and neither man plans to lose it.
That leaves Mr. Peanut. Once it's clear what he means to do, the two men suddenly find their manners. "Don't do it," one of them begs.
He lets go anyway. As he falls, a voice calls after him with all the hope it can manage. "Maybe you'll be all right. Maybe."
SaveNobody sounds convinced. It's a hero's farewell for a peanut in a top hat, done with a straight face, and that's why it's so hard not to laugh. Plenty of people do, which is a little rude when a peanut has just given his life for two men.
