A Chihuahua sits in on “The Sound of Silence”
Malinda Herman sits down on a patio with a guitar and a song known for being gloomy. Her Chihuahua takes the best seat in the house. more
It is dusk, and the patio is ringed with plants and a decorative concrete wall. Birds chirp somewhere close by. She starts to strum.
Her choice is “The Sound of Silence,” in the version by the rock band Disturbed. She keeps every word. What she changes is the feeling. In her hands the dark song comes out warm, closer to a love song than a lament.
Her Chihuahua sits right on the edge of the guitar, close enough to hear every note. More than once the pup looks ready to bark, which would be one way to break the silence.
SaveMostly, though, the little dog just sits there, front and center, with a face that looks a lot like a smile. Few fans get a better seat.
By the last chord, a song that opens by greeting darkness as an old friend has turned gentle. A guitar and one small dog, it turns out, were all it needed.
