Lynda Carter sang at Pizza Hut at 14

Long before anyone called her Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter was 14 and singing with her first band, Just Us, at the local Pizza Hut four times a week. more

She had been singing on stage since she was five. The Arizona girl spent much of her teens on tour, singing with a string of bands that did fairly well.

A Miss World title gave her new confidence and a name people knew, so she headed to Los Angeles. The breaks were small at first, part-time roles on Starsky and Hutch and a few other TV shows. She came close to quitting. She later told reporters she had $25 in her bank account and was all but packed to go home to Arizona when the big part came through.

The part was Diana Prince, the hero of ABC's Wonder Woman. It had taken her four years in Hollywood to get there, and she would play the role for four more.

The singing didn't stop, either. While she was making the show, she recorded her first solo album, Portrait, and in the third season she sang one of her songs on the show.

Her singing career ran right alongside the Wonder Woman years.

Over the next ten years her music took her to sold-out arenas and onto the stages of popular TV shows. She worked with Michael Jackson, Kenny Rogers, Bob Hope and Ray Charles.

She has kept acting, singing and doing voice work ever since. She has also spoken openly about beating her alcohol addiction, and she tells other people that they can be sober and happy, too. For a lot of fans who grew up with her, she's still the only Wonder Woman there is, and they would take the show's old effects over modern computer ones any day.
