Mom donates her ponytail and leaves feeling sassy

Christal sits down in Christopher Hopkins's chair with long white hair that hangs far past her shoulders. She wants to give it away. After that, she has no plan at all. more

Her wish list is short. She would like to donate the hair "if it's long enough," and she would like to look "fun and happy and glowing." Then she hands Hopkins, the Minneapolis stylist known as the Makeover Guy, the words he likes best. Do whatever you want.

He doesn't ease into it. He gathers all of that hair into one long ponytail and cuts it off at the scalp. "There you go," someone says. "Doesn't that feel good?"

What is left gets cut very short, then tousled and styled. Hopkins tones the white to blonde. New clothes finish the look, with a blue scarf over a white crocheted top.

It's a mother-daughter makeover. "Let's do it, Mom," her daughter had said. Now Christal sees the result. "I'm amazed," she says. "I just love it. I am wild, I feel sassy, and I'm gonna have fun the rest of the day."

She is, she adds, game for anything. More than one viewer took her for the daughter at this point. Others guessed the cut took ten or twenty years off, and a few said it fits her playful side.

Before she leaves, she has kind words for everyone there. The people were "very welcoming and very warm and loving," she says, and Christopher was "such a pleasant person to work with." Her parting line is short. "Thank you so much. It was lovely."
