Water fight at the dam with a baby elephant
Hand in trunk, Khanyisa and her handler stroll down to the dam. Up close, the little trunk curled around the handler's hand is covered in fuzz. more
Khanyisa is an orphaned albino elephant, still young, and she's growing up at HERD, an elephant orphanage in South Africa. Near the water she wanders off on her own through the grass around the dam.
Then she jumps right in. Her ears flap wildly and her trunk smacks the surface, sending water flying. All at once she plops down and starts rolling around.
When she gets up, she's covered in mud. She climbs the little hill at the edge and marches briskly around the bank. Then she heads back in, and this time the humans come too.
The second dip is a more serious affair. Khanyisa splashes and ducks herself under, over and over, her ears beating back and forth. She splashes the people around her, and they splash right back, aiming for her back to help her cool off.
SaveShe's having the time of her life, cooling off in the mud and splashing anyone in reach. Like a kid at the pool, she can't get enough water.
