Lion cub calls for mom, then hugs her leg
A lion cub stands in the tall savanna grass, his fur wet, and calls for his mother as loud as a small lion can. more
It's not a roar yet. It's a tiny cry, closer to a kitten's than a lion's, and the cub keeps at it for some time.
SaveLion cubs depend on their mothers for food and safety for a good stretch of time before they go off on their own. With mom out of sight, a cub has every reason to call.
At one point the cub sits low in the grass, half hidden, his head turned to the side. She's not back yet.
SaveThen his mother comes back to him, and he hugs her leg.
SaveThe relief is right there on his face. He lets out a happy cry, then rests his head against her leg.
SaveShe stays close and seems to comfort her cub. Someday that small voice will grow into a roar that carries across the savanna. This time it only had to reach one lion.
