At Darling Downs Zoo, a white lion cub named Kwanza has a best friend from outside the cat family. Honey is the zoo dog, a German shepherd mix. more

Kwanza's mother raised him at first. Then she stopped making milk, and the owners of the zoo stepped in to raise the cub by hand.

While they raised him, Kwanza made friends with Honey. The two spend their days exploring, wrestling and playing together, a lion cub and a shepherd mix on the same stretch of grass, with trees and water off in the distance.

Kwanza is only 4 months old, and his owners say he is sturdy and full of energy. At one point he lies flat on the grass with his mouth open and his tongue out, one ear tipped forward, looking off to the side.

On paper they are an odd match. In the grass they look like old pals. As one viewer put it, the dog gets all hyper and the lion is just chill.

Plenty of people would love to see the pair once Kwanza is full grown. For now he's a cub in the grass with his tongue out, and his best friend is a dog.
