A bear and a tiger who grew up as brothers

In the wild, a lion, a bear and a tiger wouldn't share a yard, let alone a nap. At Noah's Ark animal sanctuary, these three shared both. more

Their story starts in a basement. Leo the lion, Baloo the bear and Shere Khan the tiger were kept there together as babies, illegally, until they were rescued and brought to the sanctuary.

The staff tried to separate them. Lions, bears and tigers don't usually get along, and a meeting in the wild tends to leave somebody with scars. But the three had become best friends as babies, and they weren't having it.

So they stayed together. They lounged in the yard as a group, curled up for naps in the clubhouse and, of course, enjoyed a good snack.

Out on the grass, Shere Khan lies with his eyes fixed straight ahead. Baloo stands close by, a big brown wall of fur.

At one point Baloo sits down, and all that fur jiggles. Shere Khan sits up by a tree with his mouth a little open and Baloo's broad back right beside him.

Before long the bear leans in and nuzzles the tiger's head, and Shere Khan stands in the grass by the fence and takes it. Only a bear could pester a tiger like that and get away with it.

Anyone who lives with a house cat knows the move the top comment spotted in the big cat here. Swat someone, then ask for more cuddles right away. Shere Khan just does it at tiger size.
