The kitten in the car tire chose her own rescuer

A tiny tabby face popped out of a car tire, and Dana was shocked at how small she was. The kitten was five weeks old at most, with engine oil on her coat. more

Dana used to work for Brooklyn Animal Action. She searched the whole area for other kittens and found none, so she went and grabbed her trap. She got it all set up, and then the kitten climbed out of the tire and walked straight up to her. Dana wrapped her up in a little blanket like a burrito, carried her back to her own car and took her home in a carrier.

Dana named her Ginny, and home meant a bath first to get the oil out of her fur. Ginny came out of it so relaxed that she let Dana trim her dirty little claws, and she was hooked on attention right away. She was too small to roam the apartment alone, so Dana carried her from room to room.

Being carried was fine, up to a point. Ginny wanted some say in the matter, so she began wriggling out of Dana's hands and climbing to her shoulder, and the habit stuck. Once she had the run of the apartment, she would climb all the way up Dana's jeans and shirt just to sit there, usually while Dana did the dishes. One viewer called her a little fluffy free climber.

Dana knew the next part would be really hard. She already had two cats of her own, and she needed to keep room for the next kittens she takes in off the street, so Ginny was going up for adoption. Plenty of viewers admit they could never have handed her over.

With two cats at home already, Dana knows Ginny will need a family of her own.

Dana wanted Ginny to have a friend to grow up with, and she had another solo kitten, Lucy, close to Ginny's age. After a few days of playing and eating side by side, the two acted like they had always known each other. A few days later they went home together with the same family. The updates keep coming, and each one makes Dana glad she picked that home.
