Two kittens hitch a ride under the hood on I-10
Emily Perea was driving along Interstate 10 with a podcast on when she heard a sound that wasn't part of the episode. more
At first it seemed like a squeak. Then it sounded more like a meow, and the farther she drove, the surer she got. She pulled over to take a look.
One tiny tabby kitten was tucked up under the hood, and a second had squeezed into a spot on the passenger side. Neither was anywhere a person could reach, so Emily called for help.
A DPS officer arrived and wondered out loud whether the kittens were even alive. A meow from inside the car settled it.
A roadside assistance worker joined in. Together they took off a tire and removed a piece of the car to reach the hiding spots. Once the kittens were out, the second one gave Emily a playful nibble.
SaveThey were named Thelma and Louise, which suits two girls who hit the interstate together. Emily bathed and fed them.
Their next stop was the Arizona Humane Society, where the kittens got health checks and joined the line for adoption. They're sisters, five weeks old, and Emily hopes one family will take them both. Their bond is plain to see.
Riding under the hood of a car is a rough way to look for a home. Theirs started with a driver who heard a meow over her podcast and pulled over to check.
