Blind stray kitten sees again in her new home

A kitten sat by the side of a street, her eyes closed by infection, crying for help. People walked past her. Then two people stopped. more

She was a tiny thing in the grass at the edge of the road, and she couldn't see who was near. So she did the one thing she could do. She cried.

Plenty of people went by, and nobody slowed down. That's the hardest part of her story. She was calling for help with no way of knowing whether anyone was even there.

Stoyan and Dessey were the ones who stopped. A hand reached down at the edge of the concrete and petted her, slow and gentle. Then she was picked up, and from that moment she seemed to know she was safe.

The two of them aren't a shelter, and they do not belong to any rescue group. They are a couple from Bulgaria who do what they can for stray cats, on their own. This time that meant taking a blind kitten home.

At home she got a name, Pisscun, and a green bowl of food on the wooden floor. Her eyes were the hard part. The fix was antibiotic eye drops, and time.

The drops worked. Her eyes opened partway, enough for her to see again, and the kitten who had cried by the road turned out to be a playful one.

The couple kept her. She had cried on that street for anyone at all, and the two who stopped became her family.
