Pinky the kitten looks for milk in a man's ear
Pinky is one month old, orange with bright blue eyes, and she's sure that a man's ear is where the milk comes from. more
She lies right beside him and finds his ear. Then she latches on, lightly, and suckles as if the milk might start any second. It does not. She keeps at it anyway.
SaveNone of this is new to him. Pinky lives with British Shorthair cats, and the man is used to this kind of attention from all of them.
So he does not move. He lies perfectly still and lets her work while someone nearby laughs. She's smaller than his head, and she's winning.
SaveEvery so often she breaks off to groom herself, a habit she most likely picked up from the other cats. Then she goes back to work on the ear.
Her paws are busy too, pressing against his skin. Cat people call it making biscuits. Kittens do it to get their mother's milk flowing, and most keep the habit for life, bringing it out when they feel at ease. Pinky puts everything she has into it.
SaveAt one point she leaves the ear and goes right up to the camera, pawing at it until she tires herself out. Then she goes back down.
When she is finished with the ear, she cleans her paws. A kitten who washes up in company is a kitten who feels safe, and Pinky washes like she has never had a worry.
SaveIt is a small thing, a kitten and an ear. But the man never pulls away, and Pinky, one month old, gets to start her morning exactly the way she wants.
