Three kittens from the garden meet the house cats
A stray cat had been coming to an Arizona garden for weeks to eat and leave. Then, while watering, the man who fed her found three kittens tucked into his clover, and no mother in sight. more
He had done what he could for her. Through her pregnancy he set out food several times and tried to coax her indoors. She ate the food and turned down the invitation. In Arizona summer heat that hit 120 degrees, the kittens were gathered on a bed of green clover, keeping cool.
The vet saw them right away. All three were healthy, about 2 or 3 weeks old, and in great shape, thanks to the regular meals their mother had been getting.
Two are girls. One is gray and white, and the other is black and the smallest of the litter. The third is a boy, a black and white tuxedo kitten, and he's the biggest and the bravest of the three.
SaveBack home, everyone was hungry. He fed them prescription kitten food, and the purring started while they ate. Then everyone got a quick bath.
After the bath he pulled warm towels out of the dryer, and the three of them snuggled in underneath. Kittens chill easily, and a towel straight from the dryer is a simple fix.
SaveThere were toys, too, bright new ones, and all three went after them. Not one of them seemed to miss the clover.
The house already had cats, rescues themselves, and this is the moment that can go wrong when kittens arrive. It did not. The older cats took to them right away and gave them a thorough grooming, and before long the whole lot of them were one cuddle puddle on the bedding.
SaveThe next day he rescued their mother, too. She was badly hurt and had a fourth kitten with her, and she got the help she needed. That, as he puts it, is another story.
