George Jefferson and Archie Bunker meet again
George Jefferson turns up with news for the Stivics, and before he can get to it, he and Archie Bunker are trading insults again. more
George, played by Sherman Hemsley, knows how to make an entrance. He has come to see the Stivics, and Archie is in the room when he gets there. The look George gives him the moment the door opens has its own following, and from there the two of them are off.
The insults come fast, and they're good ones. “Pure pearls fall from your lips, too bad you're not an oyster,” goes one of them. It's the kind of exchange the show did better than anyone, two headstrong men going at it.
George isn't there just to spar. He has found a buyer for the Stivics' house, and the catch is that the new owners want to move in sooner than anyone expected. Whatever the Stivics had planned, the calendar just got shorter. He delivers it the way George delivers everything, half joke and half dead serious.
The surprise is how the two old rivals have softened. They look almost glad to see each other, which wasn't always the case. There's cake, too, and more than one viewer has opinions about it, from how good it looks to who got the biggest piece.
SaveNear the end, George offers Archie a way out, the empty bedroom in his own house. Coming from George, that's practically a hug.
