Two bank robbers walk into the Addams house

Pugsley and Wednesday's costumes are so startling that the children get a line to say at every door. "Do not be alarmed. We are only little children." more

Their father has been busy too. Gomez, played by John Astin, gets a carving knife in the mail, Morticia (Carolyn Jones) sharpens it, and he sets to work on the jack-o-lantern. It does not get a scary face. It gets Uncle Fester's.

There are bags to hold all the goodies, and Grandmama will take the little goblins on their rounds. Out front, two bank robbers named Marty and Claude are in a jam. They are running from the police, their car has run out of gas right outside the Addams mansion, and one tells the other to put the mask away.

On the run from the police, two robbers end up right outside the Addams mansion.

Wednesday decides they must be trick-or-treaters, so the children's careful speech goes to two crooks on the run. One of them says they are off for Halloween too, and Gomez insists they come in and celebrate. They have other plans, they say. Then, on second thought, they take him up on it.

Grandmama leads the children off, and Gomez brings his guests in to meet the family. (Fans are glad to spot Don Rickles in the guest cast.) When one of the robbers remarks on Morticia's outfit, she explains, "I always wear this one for Halloween." Then comes the butler. Lurch is tops, they hear, and most efficient, too.

Inside the mansion, the guests are introduced to everyone, butler included.

Uncle Fester, played by Jackie Coogan, has forgotten to light the pumpkin. "It looked just like me." When Gomez offers a treat and asks the visitors to open their bag, they're not keen. Now, now, Gomez tells them, there's nothing to be ashamed of. "I think it's rather heartwarming that adults get in the Halloween spirit."

There is some grumbling, a "take it easy, Marty," and then Gomez gets his look inside. It's full of money. He works it out the Addams way. The neighbors, he tells Morticia, have given these gentlemen hundreds of dollars in trick-or-treat. "Makes one proud to live in such a neighborhood."

"And I was going to give you apples," he says. "My apologies, gentlemen." So Gomez adds to the pile from his own money. "That's better. Happy Halloween."
