Left behind, a little otter sulks in her toy box
Most days, Hana ends dinner with a nap on the sofa beside her dad. Today he has gone out and left her behind, and the little otter is in a mood. more
Hana and her brother Kotaro were born in Japan, and they have permits to live as pets. Like a pair of toddlers, they're far too busy for a cage. They roam the house freely, and there's even a pool.
SaveDinner comes first. Bread is in the toaster, and a hungry Kotaro gets to work on the food in his bowl. People who follow the pair love how seriously he takes his meals. After dinner, Kotaro usually plays with the toys while Hana naps on the sofa with dad.
But dad is out, and Hana takes it hard. She climbs into the toy box under a wooden shelf and settles in among the stuffed animals. She wants to be left alone, and she makes that clear.
SaveHer small face pokes out of the pile, and she could almost pass for one more plushie. A very cross plushie.
She is not a quiet sulker, though. She keeps throwing her toys out of the box. At one point she peers out from between the bright arms of a toy octopus, still in no mood for company.
SaveLater she wanders over by the pool and naps in a small crate for a while. Then she and Kotaro play together in the water. After that, the pair roam the house, waiting for dad.
The moment he walks in, both otters jump up to meet him. Kotaro gets there first and climbs right on. Then it's Hana's turn for hugs and kisses.
SaveKotaro does not want to let go, and he falls asleep in his dad's arms. Hana is happy too, with her favorite person home and a hand to pet her. The toy box can wait.
