A quail chick hatches into a waiting hand

The incubator started life as a water bottle. The landing pad is a man's open hand. more

The man is a YouTuber in South Korea who goes by Imaginative Guy. He built the incubator himself from a recycled water bottle and set quail eggs inside. Now the eggs are about to hatch, and one of them is doing it right on his palm.

First the chick cracks a line all the way around his shell. Then he pushes hard at the opening with his beak. His keeper is careful to let him do the work himself, so he stays strong. At last the shell gives, and he spills out into the hand.

Out of the shell, the chick rests on his keeper's hand beside a fish tank.

He starts out damp, then dries into a soft little puff. One viewer guessed the chick takes the warm hand for his mother, and it is easy to see why.

Then one of them shuts his eyes and sleeps, while the other stays awake. It looks like nap time in a nursery, shrunk to fit one palm.

The comments read like a stack of birthday cards, wish after wish for a bird who has just turned zero. A few say they are getting quail of their own and can't wait.
