Out of the rain, a stray dog gets a backyard

Driving back to their shelter in Mladenovac, Serbia, the volunteers spot her by the road. She is a big, shaggy dog with the look of a wolfhound, standing alone in the cold rain. more

She doesn't wait around. As they come close, she runs off the road and into the bushes. She is scared, and she makes it clear she does not want company.

So they try food. It takes a long time. Bit by bit she decides to trust them, and at last she lets them pet her.

In the end they have to pick her up. A volunteer in a blue hood holds the soaked dog at the side of the road, with the car waiting close by, and they bring her to the Dog Rescue Shelter.

After a long wait and some food, the soaked dog lets a volunteer lift her.

Back at the shelter, one of the dogs who lives there comes to the gate to meet them with his food bowl in his mouth. Of the whole rescue, that bowl is what people bring up most.

The new dog gets a name, Lady. Only a few months go by before she's adopted.
