The Brussels griffon puppy who says bah humbug
Christmas comes warm on Maya's desert ranch on the West Coast. The two-year-old Brussels griffon is helping her family hang bright Christmas balls. more
Brussels griffons are known for being cheerful, and Maya fits the type. The breed tends to get along with pretty much everyone, and Maya takes her good cheer outside the house too. She often drops in on her good friend Pinky, the barn cat, who has just had kittens.
Maya keeps those visits short these days. She has just had four puppies of her own, two girls and two boys, and most of them stay snuggled close whenever they can.
Humphrey is the exception. He seems to want nothing to do with all those warm, fuzzy family feelings. His sister Holly doesn't think anyone should be alone, and try as he might to get away from her, Holly is tough to shake.
At lunch, Humphrey says bah humbug to the family-style feast. But he's hungry, and Maya won't leave a pup out in the cold, so lunch is served with a warm family cuddle. Afterward he heads off to a spot of his own while the other three settle down for a snuggle.
Holly spots him alone and decides that won't do. Getting to him takes some skating, but she makes it, and Humphrey gets a hug whether he wants one or not. One viewer calls them Jolly Holly and Grumpy Humphrey.
SaveWrapping presents is a hit with the others, who find a new toy at every twist and turn. Humphrey stays grumpy about the family games.
Then Maya takes her litter outside, and Pinky the barn cat comes to greet them. Humphrey hadn't counted on a social outing, but Mom says this one isn't optional. While the rest pal around with the cat, he keeps to himself, until Pinky decides the lone pup needs attention and gives him the dose of affection he hoped to avoid.
Next, Maya has a special surprise in store, a visit to Pinky's kittens. Humphrey is his usual antisocial self, and it turns out the kittens aren't eager for company either. Holly misses the hint and gives Pinky more puppy love than she bargained for, which only convinces the kittens they want no part of these guests.
SaveThat leaves one puppy who reads the room. Humphrey ends up in the kitten corner, in good, grumpy company, and that might be just the thing to warm his heart.
