Neil Diamond's puppy co-stars all found homes
Neil Diamond took his guitar outside to sing "Something Blue," and he didn't go alone. Every puppy who turns up beside him came from a shelter. more
The song comes from his Melody Road album, a country tune with an easy, upbeat strum. Early on, gray-haired and bearded, he sings over his acoustic guitar beside a patch of purple flowers.
SaveThen the scenery opens up. In a black jacket, he plays in front of a red rock cliff with wildflowers growing close by. Out among the red rocks he also spends time with two light brown puppies.
SaveHear the words with those puppies in mind and they fit almost too well. The song starts with someone who came "with a little bit of sorrow," and the chorus keeps coming back to "what a little bit of love can do."
Later he plays on a wide grassy field below the hills, under a cloudy sky. At one point he lies back in the grass and smiles.
SaveAs for the puppies, each one came from a shelter, and Neil found every one of them a home. Of the whole cast, they got the best ending.
SaveFans who have followed him for decades say the voice hasn't slipped, and that the song puts them in a good mood. One of them did the math: his voice plus puppies. Hard to argue with that.
