The chocolate Lab who pouts for attention
Nobody knows who taught Moose to pout. The chocolate Labrador just does it, lip stuck out, whenever he feels sad or wants someone's attention. more
He came to Melissa by luck. A college friend posted on Facebook that some family friends were giving away Labradors, and she didn't think twice. Since then he has been a goofy, slightly crazy presence in the home she shares with Brady.
Moose likes things that aren't his. Leave a wallet on the counter and he'll find it, and sticks, wood chips and rocks keep turning up in the house. He does not try to eat them. He just holds them in his teeth, and if a hand reaches for the prize, he pushes it away with a paw.
SaveMelissa and Brady have no idea where he learned that either. He's smart and watches everything, which keeps them on their toes. Yet when he's asked who's a good boy, Moose looks around as if they must mean some other dog.
He loves his people. Sit on the couch and he'll come sit on you, and at night he sleeps beside you with his head on your pillow. He can also tell when someone is having a bad day.
One night Melissa couldn't sleep and sat down on the floor, worn out. Moose went and picked out one of the stuffed animals they got him when he first came home. He set it in her lap and nudged it with his nose. His thinking, as she sees it, was that something fun for him might help mom feel a little better.
SaveMelissa admits Moose is about half her personality at this point. She may be biased, she says, but to her he is the cutest chocolate Lab there is, and she hopes he knows how loved he is. If he ever doubts it, he knows exactly which face to make.
