Best costume at last for a French Bulldog

She's a French Bulldog, and every Halloween she plans her look with her fashion designer, Heather, who also answers to Mom. Rory has been a dinosaur and a cute cow. She has even been a Christmas wreath, with her face tucked in the middle.

Each year she enters every costume contest she can, and each year she loses. Her loudest fans, the team at Dodo Kids, find this absurd. She went as a seal with flippers and lost. She went as a narwhal, the unicorn of the sea, and lost again.

And then there's the glamorous gargoyle. It has wings and horns, and it looks so real that her fans say they could picture it on the side of a building. This Frenchie still took home no award.

Rory doesn't seem to mind. She looks happy in every outfit. Sure, a win would be nice, but for her the point of Halloween is having fun, and she has plenty.

Her fans are less calm about it. They think somebody needs a word with the judges. Then a better idea lands: they could be the judges. So they hold a Halloween costume contest of their own, one they cheerfully admit they just made up, and call for a drum roll.

The winner is Rory. The judges gasp, then say they had a feeling all along. She is named best in show, the Frenchie with fashion, the queen of Halloween, and "clearly, these judges know what they're talking about." Rory finally takes home the trophy for best costume, and she and Heather get the happiest Halloween.
