Two pit bull sisters in matching crochet hats
Jani had no intention of adopting a second dog. Then she came across a pit bull puppy's picture on an animal services website and knew she had to go get her. more
The puppy was Ivy, and by Jani's account, Ivy's goal has always been to create chaos. "She came into our lives like a little wrecking ball," Jani says. Sookie, her first pit bull, accepted the newcomer pretty much right away. Jani thinks Sookie knew that Ivy needed their love.
SaveThings got a little chaotic once Ivy broke out of her shell. The girls are complete opposites. Sookie is the quiet one, calm, cool and collected, and Ivy works at interrupting that inner peace every single day.
SaveSnacks are where the two call a truce. They love eating them, and Jani loves crocheting them hats to match. That is how the tasting sessions began, with the sisters side by side in matching watermelon, donut, broccoli or mushroom hats.
SaveIvy may show up late, looking a bit disheveled. Sookie may host a self-pity party, and Jani has to ask if she is okay and whether she can get up. For the most part, though, they love this time together.
They even help make their own holiday treats. This time it is a dog-friendly pumpkin pie. The crust is a cup and three quarters of oat flour mixed with three quarters of a cup of unsweetened applesauce, and the filling is one mashed banana and a cup of pumpkin puree. The sisters sit close by and watch, all attention, while it gets made.
SaveJani says the girls are incredibly different, and she thinks that is what makes the relationship so special. Ivy brings out Sookie's playful side. Sookie lets Ivy know when it's time to relax. At the end of the day they see each other as sisters, and they will always love each other, "especially when pumpkin pie is involved."
