Belly first, a Lab puppy skips the stairs

Some puppies walk down the stairs. This one takes the ramp, and he does not walk down that either. more

When he was smaller, the family gave the Labrador pup a ramp so he could get down the wooden steps in the backyard. He has grown since then and looks big enough to manage the steps now. The ramp is still there, and he still picks it.

His people are happy to let him learn at his own pace. They may also just enjoy watching him use it.

On the ramp, he stops. He lies down with his front paws stretched out ahead of him, as if he's thinking it over.

The puppy settles onto the ramp before his ride down.

Then he lets go. Flat on his belly, he slides down the way a kid rides a playground slide. His dad doesn't seem to see that coming.

A little girl sitting on the grass nearby bursts out laughing, and it's hard not to laugh along with her.

The steps will still be there when he's ready for them. For now, belly first works just fine.
