A snow day breakfast in a Maine goat barn
Breakfast at Sunflower Farm Creamery in Maine usually happens outside, in the goats' enclosure. On this morning, with snow over everything, it moves into the barn. more
Hope, who runs the farm with Chris, opens the barn enclosure and serves the grain. The Nigerian Dwarf and mixed breed goats head straight for the feeding tray, four grown goats and a younger one among them. Nobody has to step out into the damp cold today.
They're not a quiet crowd. Breakfast comes with plenty of goat talk, and each goat sounds a little different from the next. The ones who aren't eating stand around giving the camera long looks, as if the person behind it might be able to do something about the weather.
A couple of goats wander over to the door and look out at all that snow. Then they turn right around. The barn, and the grain, win without much of a contest.
SaveOut past the door, the farm looks like a holiday card, white fields and a snow-covered barn. The goats have seen enough of it for one morning. The grain is in here.
