Toddler Josie sings Old MacDonald for Dad
Josie is two. She has a finger-puppet book of Old MacDonald Had a Farm and an audience of one, her dad. more
She stands by a white door in a sparkly green top and pale yellow pants, with the puppets tucked inside the book. The piggy goes first. Josie wiggles it as she sings, and it gets its own noise.
SaveThat is the plan for the whole farm. Each animal gets a wiggle and a sound of its own. The cow is next, then the little dog, and she doesn't rush either one.
The words are looser. Some lines go missing and some come out as her best guess, but the E-I-E-I-O keeps turning up. None of it bothers her. She knows how the song goes, and she keeps it going.
SaveThe cat gets a clear "meow meow." The little duck gets its quack. Then Josie brings the whole song home on a high note, the kind of finish most singers save for the last number of the night.
There's a "Yay, good job," and then her dad asks what song that was. Josie doesn't say Old MacDonald. She lists the cast instead: "Piggy and cow and piggy and little dog, little doggy, little cat."
Save"You're funny," he tells her. She is. She has also just gotten a pig, a cow, a dog, a cat and a duck through one song, and not one of them went without a sound.
