A jazzy “White Christmas” by a dad and daughter
Mat and Savanna Shaw are a father and daughter who sing together. At home, in front of a decorated tree, they take on “White Christmas” with a guitarist setting an easy pace. more
The room is modern and uncluttered. Stockings in neutral colors hang on the wall above a gas fireplace. The guitar starts, a gentle beat slips in beside it, and Mat's baritone opens the song with "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas."
The arrangement takes a few liberties. The guitar has a light bossa nova sway, which isn't how most people know this song. One fan says they rarely like it when a favorite Christmas song gets jazzed up, and makes an exception for this one. Plenty of others single out the guitar.
Savanna comes in on the second verse, and Mat slides into harmony with her. Their voices weave around each other, one stepping forward, then the other, until the singing pauses and the guitar takes over.
SaveFlames flicker in the fireplace while the guitarist's fingers work the strings. When the voices come back, father and daughter sing together, sliding from smooth harmony into a playful back-and-forth where one tosses out a line and the other answers. They are clearly having fun.
SaveAs the song winds down, their two voices slow and come to rest together. One fan calls it warm and bright, which seems right for a song that wishes your days "merry and bright."
