Baby deer holds still as a chipmunk visits
Lee lives in a cottage in the Canadian woods, and he's used to chipmunks. He's not used to finding a baby deer resting all alone right outside. more
Lee, a Korean man who left city life for a forest behind a lake, spends his days there with two chipmunk pals, Joony and Willy. The fawn is a white-tailed deer, still in her spotted coat, tucked in among the rocks. Lee has never seen a baby deer this close.
SaveHer mother is nowhere in sight. That's less worrying than it looks. A mother deer often leaves her fawn in a safe spot while she goes off to eat, then comes back. The baby's whole job is to stay still.
She's very good at her job. Lee tries to get her attention, and she doesn't budge. One viewer joked that she has decided she is a fallen leaf, and that nothing will change her mind, not even a man standing right beside her.
SaveThen Joony shows up out of nowhere. Lee didn't expect him, but the chipmunk takes a great interest in the fawn. He gives his tail a little wave, a small hello to the new face in the yard.
He does not rush it. Joony waits for quite a while, then works his way around the baby deer in a half circle, close and careful, as if he's checking that she's all right.
SaveAnd then he is gone, as quick as he came. The fawn doesn't move an inch. As far as she is concerned, she's still a fallen leaf.
