Sick shelter kitten picks his own forever home

A litter of week-old kittens came into a Montreal animal shelter, and one of them was smaller than the rest and fading. A volunteer named Coralie took him home anyway. more

Nobody expected him to make it. He was the smallest of the litter, and he didn't seem to know it. His first growl is a tough-guy rumble about the size of a sneeze, and it fools nobody.

Coralie fed him and watched over him around the clock until he could move around and eat without help. Little by little he got stronger, and along the way he got a name, Baby Mars.

Coralie already had cats of her own. Once the newcomer was steady on his feet, he was tumbling around with them as if he had always lived there, and they let him. Suddenly he had siblings again.

The plan was always to bring him back. That's how fostering usually goes. The kitten gets well, goes back to the shelter, and a family finds him there. Baby Mars was well, and the day came.

He had other ideas. He had already picked his home, and it was the one with Coralie and her cats in it.

So he stayed. By the end he is purring, a small steady motor, and it sounds a lot like a kitten saying he is home.
