A kitten this small should not be this loud
Pudding looks like a stuffed toy and squeaks like one, only much louder. He wants his mother, and anyone in earshot is going to hear about it. more
He is a British Shorthair kitten, and he's small even for a kitten. The sound isn't small at all. He plants his feet, opens his mouth and lets go, and what comes out is closer to a shout than a squeak. He may be the loudest kitten most people will ever hear.
SaveWalking is still new to him. He gets a few steps in, tips over, and is back on his feet without ever pausing the meow. The tumble is a favorite moment, right behind the sound itself.
The reason for all the noise is simple. He wants his mother, and she's not in the room. He finds Zumba first, and Zumba isn't his mother and makes that plain. Somewhere in the search he stops for a yawn as wide as his whole face, then picks the meow right back up.
SaveThen he finds Sunny. The crying stops the second he reaches her, and he pushes his face into her fur. For the first time, the room is quiet.
SaveThe quiet doesn't last, because the meow gives way to a purr nearly as loud as the meow was. Sunny lets him press in against her side, and the two of them settle in.
SaveThere may be a reason the sound is so hard to ignore. The most-liked comment says a kitten's squeak works on the part of a mammal's brain that handles parenting, so any mammal that hears one is a little more likely to leave the kitten alone. Pudding's cry worked. He just needed the right pair of ears to hear it.
