Rescued Istanbul kittens each find a home
Somebody dumped a litter of tiny kittens in Istanbul, in a spot that smelled awful. Stray Paws of Istanbul found them hungry, with no mother in sight. more
The rescuer didn't scoop them up right away. A mother cat might be close by and just afraid, so the plan was to back off and wait a couple of hours. An old man came by, but he did not know where the mother was either. In the end the kittens went home with the rescuer.
Home is a studio apartment, and the first job is formula. The kittens are too young to pee or poop on their own, so they need help with that too, and each one has to be burped. "Come on, big butt," the rescuer tells one of them.
One black-and-white kitten lies on a blanket beside a blue ball and wobbles from side to side, trying to stand. "That's the cutest thing," the rescuer says. "Look at them. My little girls."
Their legs catch up fast. They turn out to be messy eaters, which is fine by the rescuer, and three of them race across the floor in a line with a calico out front. Leo, the grown cat who already lives there, suddenly has four best friends.
Then comes the hard part. "It's hard for me to let them go," the rescuer says, but the apartment is a studio, there's already a cat, and other kittens out on the streets will need help too. The first to find a home is one of the little girls.
SaveOn a city street at night, a young woman holds her new kitten against her cheek. Her big sister had a cat but took the cat along when she married, so the younger sister wanted a kitten of her own. Now she has one.
SaveThe others follow one at a time. The pale orange boy goes next to last, and for a while the calico girl is the only one left. Then a family comes to pick her up, and the last of the four is on her way home.
