Seven hungry foster kittens squeak like dolphins
Seven kittens see their foster dad walk in and start up at once, high thin squeaks that sound less like cats and more like a pod of dolphins. Doug is home, and they're hungry. more
The seven came from a fish factory. The Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association, VOKRA, pulled them out when they were a week old, born to a mother with a ferocious streak. Doug took them in as their foster dad, and by the time they were old enough to have opinions, they had plenty.
So when he comes home, the greeting is loud. The squeaks are high and come all at once, in something close to harmony, as if the seven spent the whole time he was gone rehearsing.
One kitten leads. She has the biggest voice in the room and a mouth that hardly closes, and her demands are plain: food, now, and some attention while you're at it. Anyone who has raised a litter knows there is usually one like her.
SaveDoug talks to them gently while they yell for breakfast. Nobody in this crowd is shy, and it doesn't take long to see who is boss here. It's not Doug.
Then breakfast arrives, and full bellies win. All seven collapse together for a group nap, the loud one included, and for the first time since he walked in, nobody has anything to say.
