A Lego wheelchair for a tiny two-legged puppy
Someone left a tiny puppy at a vet's office. She was in rough shape, and the vet soon saw that she had no front legs. more
Hair was missing under her eyes and on her feet and tail. The legs had never been there at all, a birth defect that made walking hard. The vet called a local rescue, Mostly Mutts, and its volunteers came for her.
Her name was Gracie, a Pomeranian and Shih Tzu mix, and she was sweet and friendly with everyone. When the Turley family of Kennesaw, Georgia, met her, they wanted to keep her. She fit right in. Her new brother loved to pull her around, and she had a friendly three-legged sister.
Her mom knew Gracie needed a wheelchair. The catch was that Gracie was still growing, so any chair would have to grow with her. She asked Dylan, a 12-year-old volunteer at Mostly Mutts, to build one out of Lego. A couple of weeks later, Gracie was on wheels.
SaveNow she could go for walks. Then she did what puppies do and got bigger. She outgrew the first Lego chair, so a second one came along, a bit larger with bigger wheels. Soon there was a third.
By the time she was a year old, Gracie had reached her full size, and that meant a chair for keeps. Her permanent one came from Joey Paws and Ruff Rollin Chairs. She manages fine without it, but the chair keeps her chest and spine safe.
SavePlenty of viewers left a thank-you for Dylan. One of them noticed something else. Gracie's tail never stopped wagging.
