Prancer's honest adoption ad
Most adoption ads make a dog sound sweet. The one for Prancer, a two-year-old Chihuahua, called him a neurotic mess, and his foster was just warming up. more
Prancer needed a new home because his owner had moved into a senior living facility. The woman fostering him wrote his ad for Facebook, and she didn't soften a thing. Man hating, she wrote. Children hating. Demonic.
SaveThen came the line that stuck: "50% hate, 50% tremble." Since he's hardest on men, she added a word of caution. "If you have a husband, don't bother applying. Unless you hate him."
An ad like that should have cleared the room. Instead, dozens of people said they wanted to adopt him, and some wrote that he sounded perfect.
SaveTo be fair to the ad, it was not stretching the truth by much. Prancer is tiny, and his temper is easily the biggest thing about him.
At a picnic table, a woman holds him in his little red shirt. He barks and growls. She laughs and pets him through it, which may not help, since petting a growling dog can reward the growl.
SaveAt some point he was billed as the worst dog in America. It's a big title for a dog this small.
Look a little longer and he seems more anxious than wicked, a small dog whose owner had moved away. A big dog who acted like this would get far less patience. What Prancer needs is training and time, and someone willing to give him both.
SaveSomewhere out there is a person who reads "50% tremble" and thinks mostly about the trembling half. Going by the response to his ad, there are dozens of them.
