Tiny horse in training shoes runs with the dogs

Most horses his age weigh at least 150 pounds. At six weeks old, this miniature horse weighed 19, had a crooked jaw and couldn't walk. more

He was too small to reach his mother to nurse, and she left him. Faith Smith took him home. Training miniature horses as calm therapy companions is her specialty, but this foal needed a lot more than training.

He was thought to have something wrong in almost every way a horse can, and his first family gave up on him. So far, only one of those problems has been confirmed. He's deaf.

Faith fitted him with special training shoes and kept cheering him on. He learned to walk. Then he learned to run, and then to play. He has grown a little since the day she found him, though no one knows yet how big he will get.

Horses are not house animals, even the small ones. He is so tiny that life outside would be a risk, so he lives indoors with Faith and her dogs, a French Bulldog among them. The dogs frightened him at first. With time they turned into his friends, and he settled in as one of the household.

His fans fall for the small stuff, like his little shoes and his little gallop. One of them couldn't get over a small black dog in the house who sounds like he is wearing high heels.

Faith hopes he grows big enough one day to go outside and spend time with other horses. Either way, he is staying with her for good. Potty training is the newest project. After learning to walk, that should be the easy part.
