The piglet who thinks the dog is her brother
Jenny's son hears noises in the bushes and finds a tiny black pig, all alone and still shivering from the storm the night before. more
There is no sign of a mother pig or any siblings, and the family knows she needs to be taken in. Jenny already has a dog, a cat and a horse. Now she has a piglet named Pepper.
Pepper is "pretty dramatic" for the first few weeks, as Jenny tells it. She follows Jenny and her son everywhere and makes the loudest noises at them, almost like she is talking to her mom.
Then she picks a role model. Pepper really thinks Trout, the family's small white dog, is her sibling, and she wants to do everything he does.
SaveOne night the family heads out the door and can't find either of them. Then Jenny spots the pair far off. "You better get in that yard," comes the call. "You took Pepper with you." Pepper is right behind Trout every step of the way.
"I just think it was so cute that they went on this adventure," Jenny says, and she's glad they came back. Ever since, the two are seldom apart. They are, in her words, their own little crew.
SaveSize helps. Trout was around Pepper's size, and Jenny thinks she was never scared of him because he has a gentle side. "They really are just the best of friends," she says.
Pepper feels at home now, and it shows at the gate. When the family comes into the yard, a welcome party is waiting, with Trout, Pepper, a cat and a little horse all glad to see them. Pepper makes them smile, Jenny says, and that seems to be her job.
