Employee of the month goes to the bulldog

Reuben does his asking with his eyes. The bulldog plants himself at the foot of the recliner and stares until his person looks up from a magazine. more

"What is it now, buddy?" The man runs through the usual guesses. "It's not time for food. No, it's too late, we're not taking you for a car ride. I don't know what you're asking for."

The car ride talk gets Reuben going, and he tries to jump into the man's lap. Still, it's not the car he wants. Then it clicks. "Are you serious? Are we really gonna do this right now?" There's even an apology. "I'm sorry, I forgot to do it."

What Reuben wants is his monthly award, and he gets the whole speech. "Okay, let's go ahead and get this over with." It's for meritorious service and for excellence with customers. It's for thinking outside the box, for new ideas and for being creative with workflow. "I don't know what else," his person admits.

Then the big line. "Congratulations to Reuben the Bulldog, CEO of Bulldog Industries, for once again being Employee of the Month for April." Once again, mind you. This isn't his first win.

Reuben does his asking with his eyes.

"Is that enough for you?" It's not. Reuben keeps up the stare, so out comes a poster of him that reads April, Employee of the Month.

Last comes the handshake. "Sit," says his person, a few times over, and then "shake," and the CEO of Bulldog Industries holds up a paw. "Congratulations. Nice work."

His fans think the award sells him short. One says he should be employee of the year, and another would like a whole month named after him.
